After researching everything I could about Down syndrome when we got Ellie’s prenatal diagnosis, my next step was trying to figure out what our family would look like with a child who had Down syndrome. While Google made me apprehensive, Instagram was my source of solace. I found so many families with children who had Down syndrome, and their lives seemed to be perfectly normal. Beyond that, their lives seemed incredibly joyful!

Making Milliestones follows Nikki (mom) and her two daughters, Millie and Georgi. Millie is two and has Down syndrome. This account is wonderful because it showcases the love between these two little girls and how Down syndrome is a complete non-issue between them. Bonus: They are soon adding a third sister to the mix! I, for one, can’t wait to see the love multiply as this cute little family expands!

This is an account all about Abby’s life–her career, friends, family, self, and advocacy. Abby has an adorable two-year-old with Down syndrome named Owen whose infectious smile steals the show. Much of this account is about empowering women, and it will certainly give you a daily dose of life inspiration.

Our Huddy Buddy showcases Melanie (mom) and Hudson, her two-year-old son with Down syndrome and the youngest of five children. Hudson had heart issues when he was born and open heart surgery at five months old, and he is thriving now! Hudson is a super stylish little man who takes beautiful photos, and Melanie is obviously an amazing mom who makes sure that Hudson has all the opportunities he needs to succeed.

She and her husband are in the process of adopting another child with Down syndrome and just bought a farm a couple of months ago. This account shows their beautiful family life, and now, it shows their life learning about farming!

Kelsi is a mom of seven, and her two youngest children, Colt and Nic, have Down syndrome. After having a birth diagnosis of Down syndrome with Colt in 2014, Kelsi and her husband decided to adopt a child with Down syndrome through Reece’s Rainbow. Nic joined the family in 2017.
These two boys, their friendship, and the things they manage to get into are hilarious! This account always brings a smile to my face and reminds me of what a wild ride Down syndrome is!

ETST is the very first Instagram account dealing with Down syndrome that I followed when I got Ellie’s diagnosis. Kelle Hampton is the author of Bloom, which is about her daughter, Nella’s, birth diagnosis of Down syndrome. Nella is in middle school now, and I love watching her navigate her pre-teen years. Kelle’s account is all about the magic in the ordinary, and she is a master of making family memories.

Liz Plachta is the founder of Ruby’s Rainbow, an organization that sends young adults with Down syndrome to college. Her daughter Ruby, who is in middle school, inspired it all. The organization has grown throughout the years, and this year they were able to raise over $600,000 to send 142 high school graduates with Down syndrome to college.
This account is all about Liz’s family, which consists of her husband and two daughters, Ruby and Ella. Ruby is a hoot, and her conversations with her mother are sure to give you a giggle.

This is another account that I found early on in my Down syndrome search. Jayne is one of four siblings and is now in middle school. She and her sister Millie are close in age, and I love watching their relationship. Jayne has an inclusive environment both at her middle school and with her social activities, and I hope that Ellie will have a similar situation as she gets older.
